The organisation’s principal activities include offering the following services and supports to children, adolescents,
young adults, survivors and their families, to include:
· Offering emotional and practical support.
· Advocating for improved supports and healthcare services.
· Raising public awareness of CAYA cancers and the long-term impact.
· Funding research to enhance long-term outcomes for children, adolescents, young adults, survivors, and

The organisation's mission is to enhance the quality of life for children, adolescents, young adults, and survivors of
cancer, while supporting their families throughout the cancer journey - from diagnosis and treatment, through
survivorship or bereavement, and into adulthood.
During 2023, Childhood Cancer Ireland continued to expand its outreach and support services, responding to the
growing demand for its assistance programmes. Notable achievements during the year include:
• Providing direct support to over 500 families nationwide through our Beads of Courage™ programme, peer
support events, and shared care upgrades, to name just a few.
• Collaborating with hospitals to enhance paediatric, adolescent, and young adult cancer care.
• Developing and launching two new pilot programmes:
1. Access to play therapy and psychotherapy for children, adolescents and their siblings nationwide.
2. Parent 1-day workshops nationwide, aimed at providing psychoeducation on the impact a diagnosis has
had on the family unit, validating emotions and fears, and providing strategies to empower the family to move
forward after a diagnosis.
• Initiating the development of two more services to be launched in 2024:
1. Childhood Cancer Ireland’s Parent Peer Support programme.
2. Financial education and advice programme.
• Continuing to fund and further develop established services such as the Beads of Courage™, Shared Care facility
upgrades in regional hospitals, Gold Ribbon Conversations Podcast and information provisions for families.
• Re-establishing events such as the flagship “Light it up Gold” walk on the 10th anniversary of the first walk, from
which the charity was founded.
• Hosted the 3rd annual CAYAS Conference on the 16th of September 2023 at Croke Park, Dublin, which was kindly
supported by the National Children Cancer Services at CHI at Crumlin, the National Cancer Control Programme and
the Irish Cancer Society.
We continued to work with partner organisations, including the Irish Cancer Society as a member of the Childhood Cancer Stakeholder Group. Work on the National Cancer Strategy 2017-2026 continued through the charity’s active involvement in the National Cancer Control Programme Childhood Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Clinical Leads, Survivorship and Shared Care Committees. Collaboration continued with other organisations to support the establishment of Long Term Follow Up Care for survivors of childhood cancer and other childhood illness groups to advocate on areas of shared concerns.
